Processing Time
Average processing times vary as explained below. Please finalize your travel arrangements only after you obtain an appropriate visa. VFS / Embassy of India, Bern will not be responsible for any inconvenience/problems faced as a result of finalizing travel plans before obtaining your appropriate visa. 

Normal Applications 
Normal Tourist visas upto a period of 6 months can be issued within 3-5 working days but visa requested for a duration of 1 year or more, will take a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks.

Most visas for Swiss nationals and permanent residents of Switzerland would be processed within 3-5 working days after submission of application except as detailed below 

Employment, research, student Volunteers visa may take up to 3 weeks or more
Processing time for the below mentioned nationalities will take a minimum 7- 10 working days. 
 
Nationals of Bangladesh or any applicant (irrespective of current nationality) who previously held Bangladeshi nationality 
Sri Lankan nationals or Swiss Nationals of Sri Lankan Origin 

Postal applications need a minimum of 10 - 12 working days to be processed. This does not include the period they are in transit. Please note that the above mentioned times are dependent on the Embassy of India, Bern and will not be same for all visa cases.

Same Day Visa Service

Same Day Visa Service (Urgent Visas) are only issued to applicants holding only Swiss Passports

Same day visa applications must be submitted in person to the India Visa Application centre between 8:30am and 12:00pm. Pickup for applications the same day is usually between 17.00hrs to 17:30hrs. Applications received after 12:00pm will have their visa application processed as Normal application and will take 3-5 working days (non - referral cases). 

Please note: The processing times for visas are estimates only. We do not guarantee the visa will be issued same day. Non-Swiss nationals and Swiss nationals who require a reference have a processing time of 7-10 working days. These are based on information and experience of the Embassy of India, Bern.

PROCESS


Step 1:
Click, All About Visas” Confirm the visa type, based on your reason for travel; do not make any confirmed bookings.
Step 2:
Complete your online application
Step 3:
If the application has been completed you must download & print all form/s, read and complete checklist for type of visa.
Step 4:
Check fees payable, payment Options and documents required. All such details can be found in the respective visa categories under the section
Step 5:
Sign form/s at all indicated places. (signatures required on visa application form 2x, referral form (if applicable) 1x)
Step 6:
Ensure photos are strictly as per specifications. (link) (size 50mm x 50mm, colored and light background. A fotobooth taking pictures as per specification is available at the IVAC Bern (4pics for the price of CHF 20)
Step 7:
Check processing time to plan your travel accordingly.
Step 8:
Attach all supporting documents required as per the Checklist. Make sure your application is complete. Incomplete applications cannot be accepted.
Step 9:
Submit your Application along with the passport and required documents at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Berne in person, by a representative or by mail (see postal applications)
Step 10:
Track your Application online.
Step 11:
Your passport will be returned to you by the mode of delivery opted by you when submitted.
